The Montessori Method
Maria Montessori created the Montessori Method which is an innovative style of education that emphasizes each young child's potential to accomplish learning through curiosity and independence within a prepared environment, guided by Montessori educated teachers or guides using special materials and lessons through out the environment.
Montessori Oaks offers multi-age classrooms to help foster peer learning, scheduled work periods in which children move about the prepared environment freely with no interruptions, and a guided lesson or choice of work activity each day. In addition, Montessori Oaks classrooms are equipped with Montessori learning materials meticulously arranged and available for use through out the environment.
At Montessori Oaks our entire classroom environment, shelves, and materials are prepared by our teachers to encourage freedom within limits, independence, and a sense of order. The children are able and fully capable of individual choice, they are free to move about the environment and make use of what the environment offers to develop themselves, and interacting with the teacher or guide when they feel that support or guidance is needed.
In early childhood, it has been found that children learn through sensory-motor activities, which allows them to use their senses: sight, sound, taste, smell, touch, and movement. At Montessori Oaks, each child is given their own direct experiences while utilizing materials designed to help develop their cognitive powers.
